Please join us for fair housing tester training!

The Fair Housing Center of Metropolitan Detroit is a non-profit civil rights organization dedicated to promoting equal opportunity in housing in Detroit and throughout the surrounding Detroit Tri-Counties of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb.

The Fair Housing Center is dedicated to the eliminating housing discrimination, promoting open, accessible, and inclusive communities, and strengthening enforcement of fair housing laws. The Center provides counseling, investigative assistance (testing), and legal referrals to assist victims of housing discrimination, conducts pro-active investigations to identify and challenge discriminatory housing practices, and advocates policies that reduce segregation and poverty concentration throughout the region. The Center works to expand housing choice and increase opportunities for all populations, including groups that have been historically marginalized, discriminated against, or excluded.

The Fair Housing Center recruits individuals to work as part-time testers. Fair housing laws protect everyone from unlawful housing discrimination. For this reason, the Fair Housing Center developed a large and diverse pool of trained and experienced testers who can be utilized in many types of fair housing testing investigations. To promote equitable housing, the Fair Housing Center uses testing to investigate housing practices and aid with the enforcement of federal, state, and local fair housing laws.

Join Us for Our 3rd Annual Fair Housing Bikeathon

Saturday - April 27, 2024

Please join us at our Third Annual Fair Housing Bikeathon. Enjoy a time with friends and partners as we participate in a bikeathon to visit notable civil rights landmarks in Detroit.

Stops on the trail will include the Virginia Park Community Shopping Plaza, one of the first minority owned and built shopping centers in the nation & first Farmer Jack in Detroit, the Raymond and Rosa Parks Flat, the Shrine of the Black Madonna, King Solomon Baptist Church, and the Detroit Association of Women’s Club. The ride will be approximately 15 miles.

The cost is just $40.00. Check in will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Henry Ford Health Executive Lot, located between One Ford Place and the Pistons Performance Center. At registration, all riders will receive a gift bag containing a high-quality reflective biking vest, water and other valuable gift items. All riders will need to sign an Assumption of Risk, Waiver of Liability, and Consent to Emergency Medical Treatment form.

Riders will roll out at 10:30 a.m. Though we are hoping for pleasant Michigan spring weather--we are eternally optimistic--riders should prepare for all weather conditions.
