Please join us for fair housing tester training!
The Fair Housing Center of Metropolitan Detroit is a non-profit civil rights organization dedicated to promoting equal opportunity in housing in Detroit and throughout the surrounding Detroit Tri-Counties of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb.
The Fair Housing Center is dedicated to the eliminating housing discrimination, promoting open, accessible, and inclusive communities, and strengthening enforcement of fair housing laws. The Center provides counseling, investigative assistance (testing), and legal referrals to assist victims of housing discrimination, conducts pro-active investigations to identify and challenge discriminatory housing practices, and advocates policies that reduce segregation and poverty concentration throughout the region. The Center works to expand housing choice and increase opportunities for all populations, including groups that have been historically marginalized, discriminated against, or excluded.
The Fair Housing Center recruits individuals to work as part-time testers. Fair housing laws protect everyone from unlawful housing discrimination. For this reason, the Fair Housing Center developed a large and diverse pool of trained and experienced testers who can be utilized in many types of fair housing testing investigations. To promote equitable housing, the Fair Housing Center uses testing to investigate housing practices and aid with the enforcement of federal, state, and local fair housing laws.
Please join us at our 4th Annual Fair Housing Awareness Bikeathon. Enjoy a time with friends and partners as we participate in a bikeathon to visit notable civil rights landmarks in Metropolitan Detroit.
This year's Bikeathon will be in Southfield. Stops include the new Detroit Veterans Building, at 25100 Northwestern Highway, Southfield, MI 48075)(Northwestern and 10 Mile Road), the historic Congregation Shaarey Zedek, and the artwork of Hubert Massey at Lawrence Technical University, and more.
The cost is just $40.00. Check in will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Southfield Pavilion, at 26000 Evergreen Road, Southfield, MI 48076 (Evergreen and Civic Center Drive). As in prior Fair Housing Awareness Bikeathons, all riders will receive a grab bag. All riders will need to sign an Assumption of Risk, Waiver of Liability, and Consent to Emergency Medical Treatment form. Riders will roll out at 10:30 a.m. Though we are hoping for pleasant Michigan spring weather--we are eternally optimistic--riders should prepare for all weather conditions.
Please support our kind and generous sponsors who helped make this Fair Housing Awareness Bikeathon possible and support our important fair housing mission!
