'Mississippi’s Exiled Daughters' author to speak

John Obee is a board member of the Fair Housing Center of Metropolitan Detroit.  He has co-authored a book with Brenda Travis.  It tells the story of how Brenda joined the local NAACP branch in McComb, Mississippi at the age of 16 to assist in voter registration and ended up in jail.  Ms. Travis will lecture at the Charles Wright Museum of African American History on September 25 from 6-8 pm. The lecture is free to the public.

This is a great opportunity for people especially youth to understand the power of protest, the risk and the rewards.

Please share the attached flyer and announcement in your network and encourage teachers, youth ministers, book clubs and others to bring their students to this event. It is a powerful reminder that freedom is not free.
